Mastering Business Analysis Series (3 Session Workshop)

Thursday, July 16, 2020 -
7:00pm to 10:00pm

Abstract

The Mastering Business Analysis Sessions are developed for business analysis professionals that need to grow in their careers and are required to produce results even within the pressures felt by today’s environment.  It is principally designed for those that need to hone-in on addressing their skill gaps, but the series can also be very beneficial for those who conduct business analysis activities wanting a deeper dive for evolving best practices and the application of tools and techniques needed to perform effectively in their role.  These professionals may hold many different titles or may be in a part-time role within an organization.

Sessions are structured as three-hour modules with industry best practices, activities for participants to learn the concepts, examples with discussions on how to apply in real-life, extra out-of-session resources, and the ability to interact with the instructor and other participants in a Q&A.

June Session:             Techniques to Facilitate a Business Analysis Workshop
Thursday, July 2, 2020
7PM-10PM Eastern Time Zone

Get the techniques and tips you need to guide a business analysis workshop.  A facilitated workshop can: build trust across your stakeholders, define or break down scope, uncover requirement conflicts, discover missing requirements, help select a solution from various alternatives and help get buy-in for a recommended solution.  These workshop techniques can be used with any life-cycle approach.  You will also learn how an annotated agenda (template provided) can help you in planning the workshop to the right level of detail.

July Session:       Various Applications of Prototypes
 Thursday, July 30, 2020
 7PM-10PM Eastern Time Zone

Prototypes provide a representation of a solution.  But based on when and how they are applied as a technique, they can uncover requirements, address functional complexity, identify risks, and be combined with many other techniques to help make solutions “visible” early. There are various types, such as those that have little depth and much breadth (horizontal prototype), or little breadth and much depth (vertical prototype).  There are various levels of how closely prototypes represent the solution (paper based to software simulations).  In this session, we will not only address the various types, but we will look at how each can be used within our requirements management approach.

August Session:        Business Analyst’s Perspective:  Enterprise Architecture
Thursday, August 27, 2020
7PM-10PM Eastern Time Zone

The enterprise architecture helps transform and restructure the enterprise's business functions, information, and technology into a new more rationally organized state. It is about business and technology alignment.  The business analyst should know how to best utilize the enterprise architecture and how to best interact with an enterprise architecture team within the context of their work.  How can business analysts leverage the enterprise architecture to effectively solve problems, identify solutions across business units, and further, know how technology can be best utilized?
