Presentation: Enterprise Architecture for Business Analysts: Seeing the Whole Enterprise to Enable Better Change

Your project has clear requirements, engaged stakeholders, and a successful implementation. So why does the organization still struggle with disconnected processes, conflicting information, and changes that create problems somewhere else?
Sometimes the missing piece is not more detail about an individual solution. It is a shared understanding of how the enterprise fits together, what it is trying to accomplish, and what needs to change.

Join Samuel B. Holcman for a practical, plain-language introduction to enterprise architecture, designed specifically for business analysts with little or no background in the subject. Using familiar examples and straightforward analogies, Sam will explore how to describe an organization’s current and desired states, understand the relationships among its parts, and turn that understanding into prioritized action.

This is not a tour of technical diagrams or a lesson in memorizing frameworks. It is a discussion of how enterprise architecture can complement business analysis by making business goals, dependencies, responsibilities, and change impacts explicit and understandable.

You will explore why complexity makes a shared description of the business essential, how enterprise architecture and business analysis support one another, and what distinguishes a framework from a methodology and an implementation. Most importantly, you will leave with practical questions to bring to your next stakeholder conversation.

Learning Objectives:
  • A clear understanding: Explain enterprise architecture in everyday business language and recognize why it is not simply another name for information technology architecture.
  • A connection to your work: Understand how enterprise architecture can support strategy analysis, requirements work, prioritization, and change-impact assessment.
  • A broader view of change: Recognize dependencies across processes, information, roles, and initiatives before committing to a solution.
  • A practical starting point: Ask better questions about business goals, existing work, and reuse without waiting for a comprehensive architecture program.
