From Purpose to Process to People
Thursday, April 21, 2022
Guest Speaker: Jerry Tally
Most organizations are awash in procedures, documentation, and job descriptions. So, the work is a vast and confusing maze of tasks, projects, and positions. And hidden somewhere in that morass is the big picture, that elusive understanding of the whole. In-between the weeds (procedures) and the clouds (mission) stand the work process. Work process bridges the gap between purpose and people. It translates the vision of the organization into products and services; it provides the context for individual work activity. Yet most companies are woefully inadequate in their understanding of how a work process is defined, and how it strategically anchors more concrete work steps. This presentation will present a model for work process that provides that missing template for robust work definition. It allows workers to be co-creators of their work world rather than mere operators. It holds executives accountable for designing the organization instead of just throwing goals and resources and policies at staff and demanding results.
